Friday Favourites
If you’re a bit of a stationery addict (like many of us here) you may already know about the excellent Present & Correct site, which is a pencil-botherer’s dream. Not only is it a gorgeous site to look at, all the products are stylishly photographed in a way that makes me think I simply must have the full alphabet of 1950′s French rubber stamps, even though I can’t think of an immediate use for them. Thanks to Iona for sharing this one.
Thanks to Dan for sharing these rather lovely bird illustrations, by Pascal Anson. These were the result of a couple of drawing sessions in a dove loft, where the birds’ constant fussing and moving about meant that each drawing had to be sketched out quite quickly. This was for the BA livery project for the 2012 Olympics. More here.
Another brilliant idea from OK Go in their latest video which was created in collaboration with Chevrolet. They set up over 1000 musical instruments and props across the desert in California, and used a Chevy Sonic fitted out with retractable arms and gadgets that played the instruments as they drove through the desert. I’ve made it sound simple but it looks, in fact, incredibly complicated. It took four months of preparation and four days of filming, and there were no stunt people or stand-ins involved. Great stuff. Thanks to Jonny for bringing this to our attention.

You’ve got to REALLY love a brand to do this. This amazing collection of brand tattoos has been knocking about the blogs and the Twitter this week, and was brought to our attention by Chris. We particularly liked the massive shouty Cadillac one and the pixellated Mario, but it’s amazing how many people love a brand so much they’ll get them permanently imprinted onto flesh. IKEA tattoo anyone?
Unfortunately some of them are slightly lost in the execution. They really should have got in touch with us about the Jameson brand guidelines before starting out on that one. Found via Buzzfeed and on the Vibe blog.
We’re loving ManvsMachine’s great work on the More4 rebrand, and in particular the video showing how it was physically made and brought to life for the TV idents. It’s refreshing to see a logo becoming so much more than a 2D presence. Inspired. Thanks to Holly for sharing this.
